Cubone/Marowak

Ok, so some people think that Cubone and Marowak are pretty dark what with them wearing their own kin's bones and all. Understandable, though it got me thinking... here's a couple of points I find interesting:

Cubone's entries all state it wears its mother's skull. However, that could be interpreted in two ways:

1. Cubone quite literally uses the bones of its mother's cranium as a helmet.
2. Cubone uses the bones its mother wore as a helmet. Like a hand-me-down but in bones.

It's stated in Marowak's soulsilver dex entry that:

" It collects bones from an unknown place. Some whisper that a Marowak graveyard exists somewhere in the world."

So we don't really know what bones Marowak wears and we don't know what either of the Pokemon look like under their helmets; those skulls might not even be from the same species as Cubone and Marowak!

Even if Cubone's skull helmet is literally its mother's skull, it's nice to think that Cubone's mother is looking after it in death as it did in life; that skull and bone must help it out of a dangerous situation or two!

Lastly - and with this point, I know it's all about suspension of disbelief, but I thought it was mildly amusing - Cubone is BORN with its skull on its head! Ah, Pokemon logic
