Development progress: Rochelle

This is one of my smaller development sheets and it changes quite dramatically from concept to final image without much in the way of development inbetween, so I will annotate it here.

The whole concept started out with a head shot of a hairstyle I liked and the character instantly looked rocky, so I went with it. I always consider my character's life outside of their gym leader vocation, what they would do in their spare time, etc and I decided on paleontology; with that I mind, I tried various designs for a cave-style attire.

Although I tried to make it look like a fashion statement too, when I got to the final design, I didn't like it. Not so much that the art or design was bad as such, it just looked too much like a costume. If that's what I was going for it would be fine, but it wasn't, so I scrapped it.

Ultimately, I ended up sketching out and preferring the final result, more of an indiana jones-style outfit. Much more practical, with several references to her vocation and type thrown in there.

Incidently, you may also notice that her facial features changed. The reason for that is simple: although the initial design was quite pretty, it was also pretty generic - I am trying hard to make my designs stand out from each other, so her features were changed to suit.
