Art Progress

Description

This is mostly as a log of my own progress for myself, but you can also consider it a reveal of one of my Fakemon teaser silhouette lines if you wish.

Some of you may know that despite my confidence during conversations, I am my own worst critic and I am always trying to improve my work - both technically and design-wise - and I thought this may help. I often hear people saying how they're working hard with their own art and getting nowhere. I was feeling a little like that myself; I encourage people suffering from that feeling or from art block to do an exercise similiar to this one.

It is easy as an artist to overlook your own progress because when you're drawing all the time, it's hard to take a step back and see improvement unless you can visualize your work a while back with your current work side by side - like not being able to see the forest for the trees, or not being able to see a large picture because you're too close to it and keep staring at one section only instead of appreciating the entire piece.

The other thing people get frustrated with is that they keep making mistakes or don't seem to be able to draw what they want to.

My advice is to embrace your mistakes.

Don't see them as failures, because with every mistake - as with every drawing - you make, you will get experience and learn from it, like levelling up in a video game. Learn from a mistake and it will not have been pointless or in vain. If you don't get the result you want first time, keep trying and learning until you do. Art imitates life; it's hard work but you get out what you put in.

Now I have to go, I have some more drawing to do.

I like the pre-evolutions adorable pose for the 2013, but I do like the 2012's evolution more menacing look. Thought that the 2013's left ear was disproportional with the right ear at first until I gave it a closer look (took me awhile to realize you drew the back of its left ear :XD:). Other than that, the little heart-spikes was a nice idea and the drawing would still look great whenever you shade/color it in :D
